Youth Group Worker

COSTI REQUIRES A YOUTH GROUP WORKER FOR ITS YOUTH SERVICES PROGRAM

Duties:

  • Recruits youth to participate on a Youth Advisory Committee. Input from this committee will be utilized in programming activities.
  • Organizes group activities for the youth such as drop-in nights, English conversational circles, cultural celebrations, recreational activities, orientation/information sessions, youth leadership and civic engagement.
  • Provide information and referral to educational institutions, recreational programs, youth specific services, community centres, volunteer programs and employment opportunities.
  • Liaise with community agencies in the areas where Newcomer youth are living to bridge services to the needs of this population.
  • Provide individual counseling based on the needs of the youth (life skills, crisis intervention, and telephone support).
  • Evaluates the program on an on-going basis and recommend service delivery changes based on the evaluation.
  • Qualifications:

  • Social Service Worker Diploma or equivalent with relevant practicum experience.
  • Minimum One (1) year of experience providing services to youth at risk.
  • Minimum of Six (6) months of previous case management experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of specific issues facing immigrants and refugee youth.
  • Knowledge of the educational system, recreational programs and youth-related services.
  • Ability to speak one of the following languages is an asset: Punjabi/Urdu/Hindi/Tamil.
  • Excellent communication, organization and coordination skills.
  • Access to a car would be an asset.

    January 29, 2018 – December 31, 2018

    Starting Salary Range:

    $40,362 to $43,441 per annum + benefits

    Notes:

    This program is specifically for new immigrant youth between the ages of 13 and 24. This program will provide youth with assistance in the areas of immigration & settlement, education, recreation and employment.

    This is a full-time union contract position, scheduled to work 31.5 hours per week (Current incumbent is on a Secondment)
