Clinical Counsellor

COSTI REQUIRES AN ARABIC SPEAKING CLINICAL COUNSELLOR FOR ITS FAMILY AND MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM

This is a full time Union position scheduled to work 35 hours per week** (Current incumbent is on Maternity Leave)

Duties:

  • Facilitates intake and conducts mental health psycho social assessments.
  • Provides crisis intervention.
  • Provides counselling to women and their dependents who have experienced abuse.
  • Provides short term Trauma Informed Cognitive Behavioural Treatment.
  • Develops and implements a short term treatment plan.
  • Provides individual, couples and family counselling to Arabic and English speaking individuals, couples and families experiencing personal, emotional or mental health problems.
  • Facilitates group counselling.
  • Develops and implements a men’s support program to focus on settlement stress, emotional, and behavioural issues unique to Refugee men’s experiences and mental health issues.
  • Facilitates a support group for refugee men.
  • Conduct off site clinical visits.
  • Facilities psycho educational workshops on stress management, anxiety, depression and trauma.
  • Makes referrals to appropriate health/mental health and social service agencies.
  • Liaises with other organizations and service providers.
  • Must be willing to travel to Peterborough for 16 hours per month to deliver counselling services.
  • Enters statistical client data in COSTI’s client database and prepares quarterly report.
  • Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent with one (1) year clinical counselling experience.
  • Experience in facilitating group counselling.
  • Sound culturally competent clinical skills.
  • Must be able to speak Arabic.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of mental health disorders, treatments and psycho social interventions.
  • Knowledge of Trauma theory and recovery.
  • Knowledge of refugee mental health issues.
  • Knowledge of intimate partner abuse and impact on safety and wellbeing of women and their dependents.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Sensitive to and aware of the social problems facing refugees and immigrants.
  • Must have access to a vehicle.

    October 8, 2018 to October 8, 2019

    Starting Salary Range:

    $57,756 to 62,159 per annum + Benefits

    Notes:

    This position provides short term and long term mental health interventions and clinical counselling to individuals, couples and groups within the Arabic speaking refugee community in Greater Toronto Area

    **Hours of work shall be scheduled in accordance with Article 12.01and shall consist of five (5) seven (7) hour days, Monday to Friday.

    Priority consideration will be given to those on Notice of Recall. Subject to the response of those on Notice of Recall, this position may be open to Union members on a secondment basis.
