COSTI REQUIRES WEEKEND COUNSELLORS FOR ITS SHELTER SERVICES

These are non-union contract position scheduled to work 14 hours per week, Saturdays and Sundays.

7:00 am – 3:00 pm (2 positions)

3:00 pm – 11:00 pm (1 positions)

Duties:

• Reports to the weekend supervisor and work with Counsellors to ensure the smooth operation of the Centre, which includes responding to emergency situations, clients medical needs and injuries.
• Ensures house rules are observed.
• Supports the delivery of programs/orientation and services to residents.
• Responsible for the admission, discharge and profile creation on data base for new clients.
• Responsible to ensure welcome packages, welcome files and admission files are ready and prepared on a regular basis.
• Responsible sorting and distributing mail including contacting clients.
• Supports the smooth operation of the Centre, which includes responding to emergency situations. De-escalates non-violent crisis situations e.g. client altercation, family conflicts.
• Supports the general office duties such as answering telephones and responding to client issues.
• Conducts COVID screening and temperature check for clients.
• Conducts regular room check and wellness check on a regular basis.
• Provides emergency intervention in case of client illness and calls paramedics if required.
• Communicates in a timely and professional manner with the supervisor regarding any client concerns.
• Document services to clients and incident reports.

Qualifications:

• Community college diploma in community work/human services or equivalent.
• Minimum 6 months experience working in homeless shelters or respite sites.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Understanding of issues facing populations experiencing homelessness.
• Demonstrated experience responding to crises.
• Possession of a valid Naloxone training certificate is required.
• Required to provide a valid Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) Police check. The VSS must have been completed within the past 6 months.
• Must have valid first aid/ CPR certificate.

Hwy 401 and Victoria Park, Toronto

Duration of Position:

January 30, 2021 to December 31, 2021 (Pending confirmation of funding)

Starting Salary Range:

$21.24 to $22.86 per hour
