COSTI REQUIRES A CLINICAL COUNSELLOR FOR A HOSTING PROGRAM AT THE NORTH YORK FAMILY MENTAL HEALTH CENTRE
This is a full-time non-union contract position scheduled to work 35 hours per week**
Duties:
- Conducts intake, mental health assessments for newly arrived clients.
- Administers mental health screens.
- Provides crisis intervention to clients experiencing a mental health or emotional crisis.
- Provides Trauma Informed Cognitive Behavioral Treatment clients.
- Provides short term individual, couples and family counselling to clients experiencing personal, emotional, mental health or addiction issues.
- Develops and implements counselling and intervention plan.
- Assist clients to gain insight, define goals, and plan action to achieve effective personal, social, educational, and vocational development and adjustment.
- Work closely with general and housing counsellors to support case plan for all settlement needs.
- Makes referrals to appropriate health/mental health and social service agencies.
- Liaises with other organizations, and service providers.
- Documents services and activities in COSTI’s data base system and iCare (Management Information System) and prepares necessary reports.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent as deemed by OCSWSSW with at least 1 year of mental health counselling experience working with newcomer populations.
- Knowledge of mental health, settlement issues and local and community resources.
- Demonstrated ability in crisis de-escalation skills applied in a team setting.
- Demonstrated ability to work with individuals who have experienced conflict trauma and violence.
- Knowledge of mental health disorders, treatments and psychosocial interventions.
- Knowledge of the adult/children’s mental health system.
- Demonstrated counselling skills
- Knowledge of Trauma theory and recovery.
- Knowledge of Trauma informed practice.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Sensitive to and aware of the social problems facing refugees and immigrants.
- Must have access to a vehicle.
- Experience in case planning.
- Sound culturally competent clinical skills.
- Excellent presentation skills.
- Fluency in Ukrainian and/or Russian is an asset.
- Must have valid first aid/ CPR certificate
- Must have valid vulnerable sector screening.
- Flexibility to work morning or evening hours.
- Required to provide a valid Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) Police check. The VSS must have been completed within the past 6 months.
- Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or be exempt from vaccination on human rights grounds. COSTI reserves the right to require information establishing the validity of exemption.
