Clinical Counsellor Apply Now

COSTI REQUIRES A CLINICAL COUNSELLOR FOR A HOSTING PROGRAM AT THE NORTH YORK FAMILY MENTAL HEALTH CENTRE

This is a full-time non-union contract position scheduled to work 35 hours per week**

Duties:

  • Conducts intake, mental health assessments for newly arrived clients.
  • Administers mental health screens.
  • Provides crisis intervention to clients experiencing a mental health or emotional crisis.
  • Provides Trauma Informed Cognitive Behavioral Treatment clients.
  • Provides short term individual, couples and family counselling to clients experiencing personal, emotional, mental health or addiction issues.
  • Develops and implements counselling and intervention plan.
  • Assist clients to gain insight, define goals, and plan action to achieve effective personal, social, educational, and vocational development and adjustment.
  • Work closely with general and housing counsellors to support case plan for all settlement needs.
  • Makes referrals to appropriate health/mental health and social service agencies.
  • Liaises with other organizations, and service providers.
  • Documents services and activities in COSTI’s data base system and iCare (Management Information System) and prepares necessary reports.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent as deemed by OCSWSSW with at least 1 year of mental health counselling experience working with newcomer populations.
  • Knowledge of mental health, settlement issues and local and community resources.
  • Demonstrated ability in crisis de-escalation skills applied in a team setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals who have experienced conflict trauma and violence.
  • Knowledge of mental health disorders, treatments and psychosocial interventions.
  • Knowledge of the adult/children’s mental health system.
  • Demonstrated counselling skills 
  • Knowledge of Trauma theory and recovery.
  • Knowledge of Trauma informed practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Sensitive to and aware of the social problems facing refugees and immigrants.
  • Must have access to a vehicle.
  • Experience in case planning.
  • Sound culturally competent clinical skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Fluency in Ukrainian and/or Russian is an asset.
  • Must have valid first aid/ CPR certificate
  • Must have valid vulnerable sector screening.
  • Flexibility to work morning or evening hours.
  • Required to provide a valid Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) Police check. The VSS must have been completed within the past 6 months.
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or be exempt from vaccination on human rights grounds. COSTI reserves the right to require information establishing the validity of exemption.

Starting Salary Range:

$60,696 to $65,324 per annum + benefits
