General Counsellor

COSTI REQUIRES A GENERAL COUNSELLOR (CITY CLIENTS) FOR ITS
RALPH CHIODO FAMILY IMMIGRANT RECEPTION CENTRE

Duties:

  • Provides initial settlement services to refugee claimants in accordance with Toronto Shelter Standards.
  • Provides supportive counselling and follow-up services in special needs' cases.
  • Develops, delivers and monitors orientation sessions on refugee claimant issues.
  • Advocates and case consults with other social service organizations and service providers as required.
  • Provides crisis intervention in specific cases as required.
  • Assists clients in locating affordable and suitable housing and furnishings.
  • Keeps administration records of services and activities and prepares necessary reports as required.
  • Refers clients to appropriate community & social service agencies for additional settlement and legal services.
  • Provides interpretation and translation support as required.

    Qualifications:

  • Social Services Worker diploma or equivalent with relevant practicum experience.
  • Minimum of nine (9) months experience providing initial settlement services.
  • Knowledge and experience of settlement and legal issues pertaining to refugee claimants.
  • Demonstrated experience administering Toronto Shelter Standards, the Shelter Management Information System (SMIS) and City Quality Assurance policies and procedures would be an asset.
  • Ability to negotiate and advocate with mainstream society and able to intervene during crisis.
  • Possession of a current First Aid/CPR training certificate would be an asset.
  • Ability to communicate in any of the following languages would be an asset: Arabic, Spanish or French.

    Starting Salary Range:

    		 $27,398 - $29,494 per annum + benefits
