Youth Employment Consultant

COSTI REQUIRES A YOUTH EMPLOYMENT CONSULTANT FOR ITS
CALEDONIA EMPLOYMENT SERVICES LOCATION

Duties:

  • Conducts in-depth employability assessments with clients using Employment Service suitability indicators.
  • Responsible for registering clients into the program using CIS and CAMs (systems).
  • Provides employment counselling services to un-/under-employed at risk youth.
  • Obtains and interprets the results of in-depth career and employment assessments for clients using formal assessment tools or external testing resources, interprets collected data to assist clients in developing their Employment Action Plans.
  • Facilitates structured individual, small group, life skills/job readiness and job retention workshops.
  • Assists Youth in developing resumes, conducting effective job search and preparing for job interviews.
  • Assists clients in accessing government training programs.
  • Follows up with clients and monitors their progress to ensure Employment Action Plans are achieved.
  • Adheres to Youth Job Connection program guidelines; achieves contractual Ministry objectives and targets.
  • Maintains accurate case notes and service entries throughout the Youth relationship and compiles required written and statistical reports.
  • Identifies potential employer job requirements and labour market opportunities in the local community.
  • Conducts active outreach to employers to promote the Youth Job Connection program and Job Matching and Support Services.
  • Develops paid placement opportunities for youth in need of employment placement and skills training.
  • Conducts work site safety and placement monitor; addresses concerns with employer and client to ensure successful completion of placement and addresses any job retention issues.
  • Collects and accurately completes employer claims and ensures proper documentation is on file.
  • Liaises with community agencies, local schools and other youth serving organizations to meet program targets.
  • Assists with organizing job fairs, conducts employer and community outreach activities and other special events including acquiring guest speakers as needed.
  • Collects program data and compiles statistical and written reports required by funder and the agency.
  • Qualifications:

  • Career and Work diploma or equivalent with relevant practicum experience.
  • Minimum 9 months full-time employment counselling experience serving Youth at risk.
  • Knowledge of local labour market and industry trends and Youth employment issues.
  • Possess a thorough knowledge of job search techniques and experience placing Youth at risk in paid employment.
  • Experience working with youth and the ability to relate to youth.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and leadership skills and the ability to work in a faced paced environment.
  • Knowledge of multicultural community and sensitivity to individuals of diverse cultural background.
  • Verbal and written fluency in English. The ability to speak another language would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of Internet, Email and Windows environment software e.g. Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated experience working with youth, employers and the community.
  • Ability to work in a team setting.
  • Level B Certification in Career Assessment tools is considered an asset.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends, as required.
  • Must have access to a car as frequent travel is required in the GTA.

    Starting Salary Range:

    $23.84 to $25.67

    COSTI Caledonia Employment Services offers Employment Ontario -Youth Job Connection Program designed to serve youth at risk aged 15 to 29 who are experiencing multiple/complex barriers to employment, by equipping them with the skills training and placement support they would need to successfully transition to meaningful employment. Employers are able to access wage subsidy to hire and train Youth. This is a Non-Union contract position scheduled to work 35 hours per week Priority consideration will be given to those on Notice of Recall
