Enhanced Language Training - Pathways to Trades
COSTI's Enhanced Language Training (ELT) Pathways to Trades program is designed for newcomers to Canada seeking employment in construction trades or maintenance roles. Experience working in the trades is not required. The program offers instructor-led English classes tailored to CLB 3 to 6, focusing on industry-specific terminology and communication skills. Topics cover job roles, safety, WHMIS, workplace rights, and more. The 9-week online program offers interactive learning modules, along with Canadian job market insights, resume writing and job search strategies. Participants receive job search support from the program's Job Developer, connecting them with both union and non-union employers. The program also provides participants with the opportunity to engage in mentorship, networking events, and presentations by guest speakers. Participants are WHMIS certified for workplace readiness by the end of the program.

- Job preparation workshops (e.g. resume preparation, interview techniques, workplace culture, employment standards, etc.)
- Preparation for WHMIS certification
- Partnerships with local unions
Who is Eligible
Services are available to individuals who have acquired professional qualifications and experience outside of Canada and who have been unable to access employment in their field of expertise.
Individuals must be able to communicate at an intermediate level of English and have occupational training and experience in the respective trade.
Participants must be Permanent Residents, Convention Refugees, or individuals on a Canadian Temporary Resident Permit - TRP)
Language assessments will be arranged to determine eligibility.
