BE A PART OF A DYNAMIC AND DIVERSE ORGANIZATION AS AN ONSITE LINC EVENING CLB 3 LISTENING AND SPEAKING INSTRUCTOR FOR ITS LINC PROGRAM IN RICHMOND HILL WELCOME CENTRE
This is a Part-Time Non-Union contract position scheduled to work 6 hours per week providing onsite instruction to a LINC CLB 3 in Listening and Speaking class on Monday(s) and Wednesday (s) from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
Duties:
- Design, implement, and instruct English as a Second Language classes in a LINC program based on the PBLA (Portfolio Based Language Assessment) guidelines.
- Provide synchronous and asynchronous instruction using virtual conferencing tools, language learning software, and MS programs.
- Design level-appropriate PBLA-based module plans as well as daily lesson plans following the Revised Canadian Language Benchmarks 2012.
- Develop a diversity of course materials integrating real-world tasks, objectives, and activities that are based on the LINC Curriculum Guidelines.
- Integrate online resources, Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Avenue.ca, and other digital delivery tools in language instruction.
- Conduct ongoing needs assessments with learners, assist them in setting learning goals, and develop lessons accordingly.
- Design assessment tasks for ongoing evaluation of learners’ progress based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks and PBLA guidelines.
- Coach learners in organizing and updating the PBLA e-Portfolio on Avenue.ca as evidence of their learning progress.
- Prepare learners’ progress reports and conduct one-on-one interviews with learners to provide feedback on learning progress.
- Maintain attendance records and other documentation as required.
- Communicate with the LINC Program Administration Team on class vacancies, students’ status, and any class issues.
- Organize guest speakers and special events to enhance learners’ participation and cultural experience.

Qualifications:
- Valid TESL Ontario / OCELT certificate from TESL Ontario.
- Minimum two years’ experience teaching English as a Second Language to adult newcomers. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in teaching the corresponding CLB levels.
- In-depth understanding of and experience using the Revised Canadian Language Benchmarks 2012 and the LINC Curriculum Guidelines.
- Proficient in the application in MS Teams, MS Office Programs, and online resources in delivery.
- Completion of PBLA (Portfolio Based Language Assessment) and Avenue.ca Stage 2 training.
- Ability to adapt teaching methodology to the needs/skill levels of individual learners.
- Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working in a multicultural environment.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of adult immigrants and refugees.
- Ability to work independently with excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Must be fully vaccinated or be exempt from vaccination on human rights grounds. COSTI reserves the right to require information establishing the validity of the exemption.

*Completion of PBLA and Avenue.ca Stage 2 Training is a pre-requisite for the position. The successful incumbent who has not been certified must complete the online PBLA training and Avenue Stage 2 training within 3 months when the training becomes available. Training will be done on the incumbent's own time outside the paid work hours |
