Workplace Language Training for Newcomers Seeking Employment in Child Care and Healthcare Sectors

Workplace Language Training for Newcomers Seeking Employment in Child Care and Healthcare Sectors

The Newcomer Settlement and Language Training Program supports the social and economic integration of newcomers to Ontario. Program activities address settlement, language training and employment needs, ensuring that newcomers have the support, skills and opportunities to participate in their local communities and the labour market.

COSTI’s Workplace Language Training (WLT) is designed for newcomers at Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) levels 4+ and consists of 120 hours of workplace language training, career planning and opportunities to connect with employers through guest speakers, job shadowing, employer events and site visits.

The training is based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks / Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens (CLB/NCLC) framework. WLT Instructors will assess learners’ progression using Portfolio-Based Language Assessment (PBLA).

Eligible program participants may be provided with transportation assistance, paid CPR/First Aid Certification Courses and other incentives.
