General Counsellor

COSTI REQUIRES A GENERAL COUNSELLOR FOR ITS’
NORTH YORK LOCATION

Duties:

  • Provides assessment of client needs and development of both short and long term counselling and orientation programs to newcomers, particularly Vietnamese speaking immigrants.
  • Assists clients through information, referral, documentation, crisis intervention and supportive counselling services.
  • Organises and facilitates group orientation sessions.
  • Provides outreach to the Vietnamese community; promotes the programs and services of the agency.
  • Provides follow-up to clients.
  • Liaises with government, community groups, educational institutions and volunteers.
  • Keeps administrative records of services and activities and prepares necessary reports.
  • Performs other duties as required.

    Qualifications:

  • Community College diploma in Social Services or equivalent with relevant practicum experience.
  • Minimum nine (9) months experience in providing settlement services and in organising and facilitating groups is essential. Preferences will be given to those who have worked with the Vietnamese community.
  • Must be able to communicate in Vietnamese; other languages would be an asset.
  • Experience in conducting various methods of outreach.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the needs of newcomers.
  • Lifeskills Coaches' training preferred.

    		 August 24, 2015 to March 31, 2016

    Starting Salary Range:

    		 $23.85 - $25.67 per hour
