Armenian Speaking General Counsellor

COSTI REQUIRES AN ARMENIAN SPEAKING GENERAL COUNSELLOR

Duties:

  • Provides assessment of client needs and development of both short and long term counselling and orientation programs to newcomers, particularly Armenian speaking immigrants.
  • Assists clients through information, referral, documentation, crisis intervention and supportive counselling services.
  • Organises and facilitates group orientation sessions.
  • Provides outreach to the Armenian community.
  • Provides follow-up to clients.
  • Liaises with government, community groups, educational institutions and volunteers.
  • Keeps administrative records of services and activities, collects client profiles, inputs data and prepares necessary reports.
  • Performs other duties as required.

    Qualifications:

  • Social Services Worker diploma or equivalent with relevant practicum experience.
  • Minimum nine (9) months experience in providing settlement counselling.
  • Must be able to speak Armenian. Fluency in Arabic would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience organizing and facilitating groups is essential. Preference will be given to those who have worked with the Armenian community.
  • Experience in conducting various methods of outreach.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the needs of newcomers.
  • Lifeskills Coaches' training preferred.

    Duration of Position:

    		 February 15, 2016 to February 10, 2017

    Starting Salary Range:

    		 $43,422 to $46,734 per annum + benefits

    Notes:

    		 This is a non-union contract position scheduled to work 35 hours per week.
    This position will provide services to privately sponsored refugees from the Armenian community.
    Priority consideration will be given to those on Notice of Recall. Subject to the response of those on Notice of Recall this position may be open to Union members on a secondment basis.
